I have always enjoyed sports and being active. I played baseball as a kid and ran track and cross country through high school. After college I got into cycling. I was never able to get myself to consistently go to the gym and do "traditional" workouts. It just bored me. I did enjoy cycling, swimming, rock climbing, hiking and most anything outdoors but I was always missing any form of strength training. I began incorporating CrossFit style programming towards the end of 2010 at Vertical Limit Fitness. After a few weeks I was hooked and Vertical Limit Fitness slowly became my primary fitness training. I still enjoy cycling and competing in an occasional 5k or triathlon but I depend on CrossFit style programming to prepare for those activities and whatever else life throws at me.

I hope to help others learn to enjoy fitness and achieve their goals at Vertical Limit Fitness as I have. I enjoy seeing people have that “aha” moment where they realize, “I can do this!” or “I just did that!” I believe in a general physical preparedness method to fitness which leads to proficiency in a vast array of activities and has the added benefit of never getting boring. The body constantly has to adapt to new challenges and that adaptation is how we become better at life.

I am about as competitive as it comes. If it is playing volleyball, golfing, curling, or even playing monopoly, I'm always competing against you, even if you don't know it. I've always been able to hold my own at pretty much every sport I've played my entire life. I think this fact is part of the reason CrossFit resonates with me so well. The philosophy is not to be great at any one thing (specialization), but be good at almost everything (adaptability)....and if you're competitive, we incorporate just enough of that to "scratch that itch" too! Before beginning CrossFit, I worked out with a personal trainer for 5 years and it was the first time I ever set foot in a gym to seriously workout. After reaching a plateau and needing something different, I joined Vertical Limit CrossFit and I've shattered my previous successes, I've dropped more weight than I thought possible, and I'm in better shape now than any other point in my life. CrossFit works!!!!!

For me, coaching is a natural extension of CrossFit training. It is a focus on helping others get better each time you step into the box. Helping people achieve things they didn't think they could accomplish and set personal goals they didn't think they could achieve only pushes my own personal training that much harder - competitive, remember??!!??
